On the 14th it was reported that an anonymous lower division wrestler has tested positive for coronavirus. He was complaining of COVID related symptoms on Monday evening and was promptly quarantined within his stable. A PCR test was administered the next day, coming back negative. His symptoms persisted for a few days after that, prompting a subsequent test on Thursday which read positive.
Since Friday morning he has been under medical supervision at a local hospital, and his symptoms have remained relatively mild. According to the sumo association, those recently in close contact with the wrestler in question have been tested as well, and proper precautions are being taken with those involved with his stable. So far no reports of symptoms have come back from any of the others being tested.
This week was good though for Matsugane-oyakata, the Nishonoseki-beya coach who recently tested positive. On Thursday he was discharged from the hospital he was at with a clean bill of health.
